Friday Ramblings

It's Friday, you know the deal...

  • When you start to realize all the stuff you have to pay for if you want a nice wedding and begin questioning if you should just elope...but you've worked too hard on your Pinterest board to give up.  #deTURMANedToWed #GetMarriedOrGoBrokeTrying #BeyonceTasteTeacherPockets
  • Everyday I question how people have more than two kids.  Like my parents only have me and my brother and I don't see how they did that now that I reflect on it.
  • Rwanda out here making documentaries about stuff some American men don't care for.  Google Sacred Waters and find out about it.
  • Shameless is a pretty good show.  Some stuff seems like it would never happen in real life but nonetheless pretty good show.
  • I'm still in need of that personal trainer...and nutritionist.  Primarily the nutritionist since I can't properly eat to save my life.
  • People in Augusta out rallying for Trump 2020.  Can we please just get through the first year or two?
  • Started my graduate program last week.  Found out I had been dropped from a course minutes before leaving for Statesboro.  I proceeded to freak out.  Luckily I have been added back.
  • Speaking of graduate school, I need to start a GoFund me so y'all can help pay some of my tuition.
  • When your friend post a line up for One Music Fest and you internally cry because you won't have the time to do anything outside of work for the next x-amount of years.
  • They canceled Underground right after I got into it.  I know somebody better pick it up if they're willing to have all these Tyler Perry shows on cable.  *Looks at Oprah Winfrey*
  • Why are these men mud wrestling on The Bachelorette?  This ain't sexy.
  • Is HBO gonna fire Bill Maher or let him go?  I don't care how "liberal" he is (dude seems to be very much against Muslims if you ask me).  He was never invited to the cookout...regardless of the fact that he dated Karrine Steffans.
  • Halle Berry out here either lying or trying to keep herself relevant with this alleged food baby.  Take your 50 year old self somewhere with this mess.
  • Men are out here making music video proposals and I'm just trying to get mine to pick out groomsmen.  I feel like I deserve an invite to their wedding also.
  • There are moments when I look at people with their kids and think, "Man I can't wait to have my own kids" and then within a split second that changes as the child does something that makes me turn my face up.
  • I need to get married just for the vision insurance at this point.  Like my job has the worst vision insurance.   It doesn't even help pay for glasses. Actually it's just medical insurance that lets you get a comprehensive eye exam every two years, but that's not the point.
  • When you're in love with TLC's new song but the only option iTunes provides you with has Snoop Dogg on it.
  • It's that time of year when I want to cut my hair off, but don't know what my curl pattern is.
  • When your graduate school readings make you glad not to be a teacher in the late 19th and early 20th century.
  • Kendrick Lamar gets his little sister a Toyota Camry and y'all out here yelling that he should have got the girl a BMW.  She's 18.  Y'all need to be concerned with what her post-graduate plans are. #PrioritiesAllMixedUp #HesRichNotHer
  • When your cousin tells his mom that you need to send him some philosophical books and you're trying to figure out what in the heck that means.  The Autobiography of Malcolm X and Native Son it is then.
  • Derek Fisher out here flipping cars over that belong to other men.  Now Matt Barnes gotta go beat him up again.
  • Will Kyrie Irving be having his All White yacht party again this year?  #AskingForAFriend #QTNA
  • When you see a dress on a stick figure model that you like but question if you would have too much showing in the front.  Should I risk paying $72 or nah?

  • Some of these news outlets kind of shady with the announcement of Janet's baby.  "Janet gives birth to first son."  Soooooooo...we still on that story that Janet had a little girl way back when?  We can't just say, "Janet gives birth to first child"?
  • Lord let my certificate upgrade hurry up and clear so I can get this pay raise that I've worked towards for the last year and a half.

Candied Pecans

I wanted to make a strawberry pecan salad with homemade raspberry vinaigrette and really wanted some candied pecans on it.  Walmart didn't have anything specifically labeled as "candied pecans" instead they had honey pecans or something like that for $4.  I looked up a recipe and knew I had all of the ingredients at home.  Therefore, being my awesome self I decided to make my own candied pecans, but altered the recipe some.

Ingredients
1-1/2 cup of pecan halves
1/2 cup white sugar
1 egg white
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 tablespoon water
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
Pinch of salt

Preparation
1.)  Preheat your oven to 250 degrees Fahrenheit and cover a baking sheet in aluminum foil.

2.)  I recommend mixing your white sugar, cinnamon, and salt in a small bowl (like what you eat cereal out of).

3.)  Whisk your egg white, water, and vanilla in a large bowl until it is frothy.

4.)  Pour your pecans in the bowl with your egg white mix and stir with a spatula to ensure each pecan gets the mix.

5.)  Pour the sugar mix into the bowl of pecans.  Stir well with a spatula to evenly distribute your sugar mix.
6.)  With your hand remove the pecans and evenly spread onto baking sheet.
7.)  Cook for 1 hour and stir the pecans every 15 minutes with a clean spatula.

8.)  Remove from oven and let cool off for 15 minutes.  Enjoy!

Reflection
These were really good, but I think next time I may try to do 1/4 cup white sugar and 1/4 cup brown sugar.  I also may try to use vanilla extract in place of water.

Friday Ramblings

It's Friday, you know the deal...

  • People were up in arms over Kyrie Irving having a yacht party full of white women.  When I looked at the story my first thought was, "Kyrie Irving?  Who is that?"  I had to look him up to discover he's the dude who pretty much got media attention after his girlfriend allegedly cheated on him and let it be known through instagram.  With that said, Kyrie Irving is a nobody in my book still.
  • I signed up for a cake decorating class and I realized how I don't eat baked goods like that.  I ate one piece of the cake I decorated and didn't eat another piece.  It was good cake though
  • 30 for 30 has me wanting to find a "Bad Boys of Detroit" t-shirt.
  • I swear to y'all nothing makes me happier than seeing Black kids who LOVE reading.  Like it seriously touches my soul.  #BlackKidMagic
  • Found 144 Expo markers on sale for $75 and then the price went down to $55.  The Lord is good! *hits teacher praise dance* #DryEraseMarkersAreWorthGold
  • Finally got around to ordering Warsan Shire's Teaching My Mother How To Give Birth and then discovered soft magic by Upile Chisala.  I swear I should have kept writing because I used to be a young Maya Angelou in my past. #ImBiasedThough
  • Speaking of poetry, I still wish my city had a strong creative community.  I always wanted to attend a poetry slam, but I've never been able to find one.  I also wanted to be in the Vagina Monologues (missed my chance in college because I graduated right before I mustered up the courage) or For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide/When The Rainbow Is Enuf.
  • Why have I been listening to Jodeci none stop since Saturday?!  I realize more and more how the 90's had some great music.
  • Also, the men of Jodeci look pretty bad.  This Devante Swing guy was cute back in the day...but drugs will mess you up.
  • My skin has just been breaking out all summer in the forehead and chin area.  I swear every summer it's a new area of my face.  Ugh...too old for this mess.  Why me?!
  • Summer is almost over.  Didn't cut my hair off.  Didn't get my hoop nose ring...that I've been wanting for almost 10 years.  Decided I wanted a tattoo...know I'm not going to get it.
  • Finally got some living room furniture and it's too much for my little place.  I had to get my Mom a.k.a. Suge Knight to make them take 2/3 of it back.
  • I swear I spend all my money when the school year approaches.  I had almost $200 in my cart on Amazon, but decided it was best to split my order up.  I know I've probably spent $100 at Target already on stuff for my room.  I need my pay raise NOW!
  • Well...Taylor Swift is officially back on my {Bleep} List after Kim Kardashian exposed her lies.  No more sympathy for you Taylor. #HeMadeThatGirlFamous
  • When is the annual Racial Draft?  We need to get rid of Omarosa if we haven't done so already.  Director of African-American Outreach?  More like the overseer slave. #ByeFelicia
  • Melanie Trump's ghostwriter is out here making her look foolish!  They just decided to copy and paste from Michelle Obama's 2008 speech thinking nobody would notice.  Dude, this is 2016!  The internet is FULL of people waiting on the next set of memes they plaster across the web.  #WeDontCare #MakeAmericaGreatAgain #OneCopyAndPasteAtATime
  • "You may write me down in history with your bitter, twisted lies.  You may trod me in the very dirt but still, like dust, I'll rise."  #FamousMelanieTrumpQuotes
  • Ted Cruz is out here sticking it to the man y'all!  Dude did what he wanted by not endorsing Trump.
  • Everybody needs to throw $50 my way so I can get supplies for my classroom. #BrokePhiBroke #BallinOnABudget
  • This child told me she's ready to go to 1st grade so she can have her own desk and get some privacy.  In that moment I thought teaching kids that young may not be that bad...but I think that grade cries a bit much for my liking.
  • How did I manage to go to Target and spend $37 on THREE items?!  THREE items!
  • I'm going to try this oil cleansing method that Hey Fran Hey talks about.  Here's to hoping my sensitive skin doesn't go crazy.

How To Be A Housewife: Eggplant Pizza

It's the summer and I usually try some new foods.  This summer I've been slacking though and haven't really done as much.  After realizing that I gained ten pounds from March 2015 to October 2015 I have somewhat realized that I need to make some lifestyle changes.  My goal for the rest of the year is to try to eat healthier and I'm trying to make that change this week.  So yesterday I went to Kroger and purchased an eggplant for $0.98.  I've never had eggplant before today and I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was.

Ingredients
Eggplant
Marinara Sauce
Salt
Pepper
Provolone or Mozzarella slices (whichever type of cheese you like)
Oregano
Spinach (optional)
Olive Oil

Friday Ramblings

It's Friday, so you know the deal...

  • Wow...it's been awhile since I typed that out.
  • I had the "privilege" of being hit on last week while in my car with my friend.  Despite telling the guy that I had a boyfriend he informed me he would happily be my "side n****" because it's 2017.  I should have been kind enough to inform him that it's 2016, but I don't think he would have cared. #NobodyHitsOnMe #BlameMyRestingWitchFace #ImCute #IGuess
  • I thought about cutting my hair, but once again I'm a punk.  Like seriously, I am the biggest punk.
  • Netflix is the Devil.  I've watch the full House of Cards series (Season 4 didn't impress me too much) and I'm nearly finished with Mad Men (Today is Monday and I'll probably be finished by the time this is posted.)  I'm pretty sure this isn't healthy.
  • Speaking of Mad Men, Don Draper is bae.  Well he would be bae but I'm pretty sure he had to have contracted some type of STD because all he does is sleep with women...like A LOT of women.
  • My friend called my FitBit an old people's watch in a subtle way.  I tried to kick her out of Logan's, but she didn't leave.  I just cut my eyes at her the rest of the time. Taylor this is about you.
  • Taking a cake decorating class.  I'm ready to turn in my letter of resignation and sell cakes out of my house.  I mean, who cares if I only know how to do a rosette swirl.  Right?  Baby Cakes coming soon!
  • Pretty sure I have ADD but nobody has diagnosed me.
  • I need a serious vacation.  As in me at the beach in swimsuit covered in a t-shirt so nobody can see my chubby body.
  • American Crime Story has made me obsessed with O.J. Simpson.  Anything that comes on about him I have to watch.
  • My Mom turned 35 despite having a child whose 37 and another whose 26.  I've gotta ask her what's her secret. #SheKnowsAboutTheFountainOfYouth
  • My step-grandmother believes men should be allowed to cheat.  I should have informed her that nobody cares about her opinion.
  • Have y'all seen the videos of the guy who cooks a bunch of stuff with Hennessy?  Everytime I watch them I want to vomit  and then I question why he's wasting his money and good food.
  • I still can't believe Donald Trump is actually a presidential nominee.  Like, Republicans you all should be ashamed of yourselves.  This is the equivalent of letting your bad child get out of hand and to the point that you can't control them anymore.  Republicans, this is your fault.  Be ashamed of yourself.
  • OJ's friend AC is a wimp.  He let OJ TAKE his girlfriend, was ready to take a bullet for him, and then was his getaway driver.  I guess some people would say he's a good friend, but I just call him stupid.
  • Since I don't have cable I've been watching a ton of 30 for 30 films.  Some of these stories are absolutely sad.  Case in point, Without Bias, which is about Len Bias who died two days after being drafted by the Celtics from a cocaine overdose.
  • This alligator case is so out of hand.  They're shutting all these beaches down because of it.  I'll hold some of my feelings to myself.
  • How in the heck did the Warriors lose the series?!  Like...I'm not even a basketball fan but the feelings I felt when I discovered the Cavs won game 7.  #LightSkinBrotherComebackHasComeToAClose #StephCurryWithoutTheShotBoy
  • Y'all men turned on Ayesha Curry quick, fast, and in a hurry when she said the NBA was rigged.  What happened to y'all wanting an Ayesha in your life?  #SheCanCook #SheCanClean #JustDontSpeakYourMind
  • Some of y'all need to teach your kids manners.  I had a kid jump over me at the movies and the grandma didn't tell him to say "excuse me" or anything.  Just rude...I wanted to yank his behind back so bad, but I'm not made for jail.
  • Finding Dory was somewhat sad at some parts.  I found myself nearly shedding a tear, but quickly wiped my eyes. #NoTearsOnMyCheeks #ThugLife #StillNotMadeForJail
  • OMG Kanye said his wife is the female OJ in this Schoolboy Q song.  This is so amusing to me. My love for Kanye might return.
  • Speaking of Kanye...Kim Kardashian should have kept her "soul" food plate picture on her phone.  I saw that picture and laughed for a good minute.
  • This woman in my decorating class does what she wants.  Instructor tells us to make buttercream icing.  She makes cream cheese icing.  Instructor says bake a cake so we can tort and level it in class.  She brings the half of the cake that she already torted so she has no true top layer.  Why are you in the class if you're just going to do what you want?!
  • Why y'all sending Britney Griner "Happy Father's Day" tweets?  I swear I hate y'all because you have no chill.  Like zero chill any given day.
  • I managed to watch the first episode of Oprah's show Greenleaf thank God for my parents having cable.  It was pretty good.  Not sure how it can be a tv series instead of a miniseries, but if Oprah can keep a story going then it should be fine.
  • Speaking of that show, Lynn Whitfield always has to play some evil woman.  ALWAYS!  Her face is super snatched though.  Like that thing just got a lift a month before the series started to film.
  • It's so hot in Georgia y'all.  Like my thighs are sweating every moment it feels like.  This could be a sign that I need to lose weight though.
  • Mom's out here getting arrested for whipping their kids after catching them in the wrong.  I told my Mom about this and how she should be in jail for all the whippings I received.  Her only response was, "I probably didn't whip you enough." #SheDontCare #SecondChildGetsNoLove

Sip The Lemonade: Beyonce's Formation Tour

On Sunday, May 1st I received all my life at the Beyonce Formation Tour.  My beau bought the tickets for me as a Valentine's gift and the anticipation to May 1st began.

Let me start off with this...I had the pleasure of seeing some FABULOUS outfits at this concert along with even better jewelry.  I'm so serious when I say men have some of the best neck pieces.  I found myself wanting to snatch some necklaces off, but remembered I'm not made for jail.  Along with the good also came the bad.  There were definitely people there with outfits not for their body type.  I'm all for self-love of one's body, but please make sure you don't buy things too small for yourself.  No reason as to why you should be pulling your one piece out of your butt after every step you make.  Along with steps, some people failed to realize they were not Beyonce as they came strutting to the Georgia Dome in their six inch heels.  Before and after I saw women's heels leaning to the side as women took each step.  Their heels were asking the Good Lord not to let this be their final day in the shoe world I'm pretty sure.

I was curious as to why DJ Khaled was the opening act five minute prior to to his performance, but soon I was reminded of the benefits of the Hip Hop Kirk Franklin opening.  Rick Ross came out first no ankle monitor visible to the eye.  2 Chainz emerged next (I was hoping he was Future), T.I. was allowed to take the day off of daddy duty, Ludacris a la pick in small fro, The-Dream, and whoever the man is that sings the song about a Spanish woman talking to him and him replying in Japanese #SheSaidHolaComoEsta #KeepForeignLanguageInSchools.  DJ Khaled then proceeded to hit his best Obama impersonation with a drop of the mic.  #KhaledOut #WeDaBest

I then proceed to wait for what seemed like an eternity in Bey Hive time.  She offered us two Ivy Park ads, but I'm not sure about buying any of that because House of Dereon was not the best quality.  After about a hour the lights went out, I heard the swarming of bees, and all that was left was the illuminating light of the mysterious white cube.  The stage proceeded to be filled with smoke and that cube.  The only thing going through my mind was was where she was gonna come from.  I'm pretty sure I started hyperventilating about it.  Right then the beat to Formation dropped and emerged Beyonce in her American Horror Story:  Coven glory.  Y'all can't tell me Beyonce isn't the new Supreme!  Me and the thousands of other people hollered out "I SLAY!" numerous times at her demand.

The hat disappeared and the hair shaking began.  This woman must not get headaches because my head would be in pain as must as she shakes that weave.  She did her classic Run The World minus all the dropping it down low.  She performed some of the my favorites from Lemonade like Hold Up, Don't Hurt Yourself (her guitarist or bass player did an amazing solo prior to this song being played), All Night Long, and Sorry (plenty of middle fingers up telling boys bye).  I anticipated the line of "Better call Becky with the good hair" and searched the crowd to see what some Beckys would do.  I wasn't disappointed as a blonde girl probably in her 20's proceeded to twist her hair and then flip it.  The anger of a 1,000 Bernadettes from Waiting To Exhale filled me in that moment.

She at some point gave us this speech on loving yourself even when you've been hurt prior to performing Me, Myself, and I.  All these emotions filled me as I closed my eyes and sang along because I definitely blasted some music from her during my break-ups (ummm...Why Don't You Love circa 2010 the day after my first boyfriend broke up with).  When she performed Sorry I became more fascinated with the back-up dancer with the short hair blonde hair, Saidah Naiobi.  Seriously she made me want to go chop my hair off and dye it platinum blonde.  I think I found myself looking for her in every dance after that.  Oh yeah, did anybody else get Huey Newton vibes when Beyonce had that chair come out as she sang Ring The Alarm?

At some point the romance and odes to love/baby making began to play as she belted out my favorite from her Beyonce album Rocket with a little Untitled by D'Angelo, 1+1, Blow, Naughty Girl with Nasty Girl mixed in by Vanity 6, and Drunk In Love (the screen even gave the effect of being intoxicated).  I finally had the chance to witness her do that chair flip in Partition but missed it by a millisecond trying to tell my beau something.  I was ticked off to say the least.  This is also the part of the show when I started to realize that Beyonce's butt isn't as big as the media makes it.  From the back it's curvy, but from the side its not that plump looking.  She's just got a tight butt that sits up high I think.

The dancer I'm talking about is on the right.  Serving all types of #Goddess.

In her final set she emerged in true superhero form with a cape blowing in the man made wind and no shoes.

Super Beyonce to the rescue!!!

The stage was filled with water and the dancers began the ritual Rain Dance to Freedom as Beyonce's showed she was was smart and purchased bundles of Wet & Wavy for the special occasion.  I wonder how many women with fresh weaves were upset about getting splashed with a little water or if they took it all in because the water had been blessed by Beyonce's knees and feet.  She performed Halo but that is one song I've never cared about

Overall the show was fabulous and a great to start to my week seeing how it's Teacher Appreciation Week and three weeks of school left.  There are not many singers out here who can sing with 100% effort and dance at the same time like Beyonce.  I look forward to seeing her again in the near future hopefully.

All photos with came from either Beyonce's Facebook or PopSugar because (1) I wasn't that close and (2) my iPhone doesn't produce such high quality photos.

I Lace 'Em Up Every Night For Guys Like You: Chicken Curry

This recipe was inspired by this video.

During the summer I like to try random recipes.  Why?  1.) Because I have the time and 2.) I like to eat.  My Mom is always saying I'm eating some different types of food and it's true.  This was no exception for my household.

Ingredients
1-1/4 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts cut into 1/4 inch strips
Salt
2-1/2 teaspoons curry powder (divided)
3 tablespoons olive oil (divided)
1 medium yellow onion, chopped
2 teaspoons of minced garlic
1 tablespoon ginger
2 cups low sodium chicken broth
1 tablespoon cornstarch
2 teaspoons sugar
1-1/2 frozen peas
1/4 cup plain low fat (2%) Greek yogurt (do NOT use nonfat)

Friday Ramblings

It's Friday, so you know the deal...

  • Well I definitely cried watching Inside Out.  It seems like that's all that I do now.  What has happened to me?!
  • BET Awards Recap:
    • Is that Kendrick Lamar?  I didn't even recognize him!  This song sounds pretty good too.  I might have to buy this album.
    • Nicki Minaj pretty much knows she's gonna win this award every year.  I think she was just sitting on the edge of her seat trying to make sure she didn't stand up before they actually announced her name.
    • So Tracee Ellis Ross can say "eat the booty" but they blur it out for the Omarion performance?
    • Alicia Keys let Ursula the Sea Witch take her voice.  This is so sad and she messed up The Weekend's song.  When she started singing I got the same emotions I feel when Wale starts rapping on a Miguel song.
    • BAD BOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Diddy should have just performed the entire show if you ask me.  Then when Lil' Kim came out?!?!?!?!  I went all types of crazy!  #IMissedDiddyFallLive #TakeThatTakeThat
    • I used to think Peaches and Cream was about actual peaches until I was 21.  #ToBeYoungAndInnocent
    • Why must the cast of The Game be so lame all the time?  Why did the Hosea guy look so greasy along with other things?  Don't get me started on that ribbon around his head.  He should have went to Reinbows.
    • Poor oldest child from Blackish has no rhythm.  It's okay because he tried.
    • Smokey Robinson is a fineeeee old man.  I might go find me a red bone man with light eyes.
    • Robin Thicke might as well have dedicated this performance to Paula Patton.  #HeStillLovesHer
    • Shout out to Nicki because if it wasn't for her Meek Mills would have continued being forgotten about this year.
    • Ciara's dancing is absolutely amazing!  Wait that was Tinashe in the beginning?!?!?!
    • I know Janet did not just walk on that stage, say her thank yous, and walk off.  BET told me she was performing!  THE LIES MUST STOP!
    • My Mom's exact words when she saw K. Michelle, "Who is this big butt girl?"
    • Ummmm Tamar these eyelashes are not working right now.  Like I'm legit freaked out.
    • When Patty came out I kicked my own shoes off!
    • No to my Mom dancing to Trap Queen.
  • I cooked chicken curry.  It was pretty good too according to those that tried it. #WatchOutAyeshaCurry
  • TI and Tiny's son King is entirely too hyper for my liking.
  • Ummmm who wrote Magic Mike XXL?  I need to file a complaint because they called themselves trying to write a cinematic piece trying to give these guys aspirations.  I didn't go see the movie those purposes.  I went to see the men dancing, more specifically Channing Tatum, not know that Tito wants to open a fro-yo shop.  And who did those terrible braids in Tito's hair?!
  • The last dance of Magic Mike made up for that previous statement.
  • Jesus be a tutor in this Geometry and Measurement class because Lord knows I'm gonna need it.  #GeometryIsTheDevil #TheyDontTeachTheBabiesAboutSkewLines
  • The saga continues in the Britney Griner and Glory Johnson soap opera.  Now they're having twins but Britney still ain't claiming those babies.
  • A child at my summer job has become obsessed with my place of employment and my personal life.  "Why did you go teach there?  Why are you leaving?  What was college like?  Did you go to college parties?  Do you dream in math?"  Ummmm...
  • There's two weeks of summer break left essentially.  Me and my summer school students took a moment to cry about that this week.
  • A child at the beauty salon told me I needed to cut my toe nails.  I laughed but thought at the same time, "Dang you rude!"
  • I'm still waiting on Pixar to call me up to start doing voice over work so I can quit teaching.  If not I'll have to resort to my other idea of opening my entertainment club.
  • I need to buy one of those relaxation coloring books.  That way I'll have another distraction from doing work throughout the year.
  • This Jenga box sitting on my dresser waiting to be played with again.  The sad life of having no one to play with.
  • Misty Copeland is all types of ripped!  You can see every muscle in her arms and back I swear.
  • I'm lost as to why my middle finger nails are curving in on the side.  Anyone have an answer?

How To Be A Housewife: Corn Pudding

Corn Pudding, circa Jan. 2015

I haven't done one of my How To Be A Housewife blogs in awhile...obviously it's not working for me because I'm still slaving at the school house instead of being taken care by a rich sugar daddy.  Anyways, back in January for New Year's I was given the task of cooking corn pudding by The Giver of Life a.k.a. Mom.  During the two weeks we're out of school for Christmas I'm generally in a great mood and don't mind cooking so yeah.  My Mom has been making this since I was a kid and I've always enjoyed it.  I'm not sure if it's healthy but it taste good!

Ingredients...with homemade sour cream since we didn't have any.

Ingredients:
1-15 oz. can whole kernel corn
1-15 oz. can creamed corn
1 cup of sour cream or oleo as the recipe calls it
2 eggs, beaten
Stick (1/2 cup) of butter, softened
1/4 cup sugar
8 1/2 oz. box of Jiffy corn muffin mix

How To Prepare:
1.  Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.
2.  Soften, not melt, your stick of butter in the microwave.
3.  Beat eggs as if you are making scrambling eggs.
4.  Mix all of the ingredients together.  Pour into an 8 x 8 inch pan.
5.  Cook at 350 degrees for 45 minutes or until fork comes out clean from the center.

Crappy shot but all the ingredients in one bowl.

Spatula courtesy of my coworker/mentor who was also my Secret Santa.

Clean bowl

All ready for the oven!
Excuse the appearance of our freezer.

Finished product
Sorry it doesn't look like something Step Curry's wife made with the presentation and all.

Since I haven't posted anything in awhile I'm going to try and post the HOMEMADE red velvet cake a did despite the icing ruining all of my hard work.  This summer I'm also hoping to try some new things out since I have a little more time despite my second summer class happening and having to work these next few days.  See ya soon!

Friday Ramblings

It's Friday, so you know the deal...

  • OH MAH GAWD!!!!  I've been gone so long from here!  My last post was back in December.  So much has gone on but watch me not remember any of it...
    • This school year remained an emotionally draining one for me.  It was very rough on me emotionally, physically, and mentally.  I definitely questioned myself quite a few times and thought about just throwing up the peace sign.  Luckily I didn't or else I would be the teacher you see in pre-planning video that walks off the job.
    • The two months my co-teacher was gone was hell on wheels.  I thought about getting pregnant just so I could take a two month vacation.
    • I ended up getting transferred in my county to what people would say is a better school.  It was in the same position except with elementary school.  I jumped for joy when I found out.
    • I got all A's in my first semester of graduate school.  Praise God!
    • I was on jury duty.  I sent a guy to jail.  #FearMe #LongestTwoDaysOfMyLife
    • I got hired in another county to teach in my ideal position.  Guess who submitted a letter of resignation?
    • I had the opportunity to go to the High Museum in Atlanta.  OMG I can't wait to go back.
  • I think I want to go on a three day juice cleanse.  Anyone ever had the Suja juice?  Anyone want to do it with me actually?
  • I bought some golf clubs!  I figured it would be something fun to try during the summer and a great way to meet rich people in high places.
  • So y'all just gonna buy Creflo Dollar this $65 million private jet?  The Lord really must have sent y'all some serious messages because I just can't get with that.  Hopefully he sends y'all a message to help pay off my student loans too.
  • My name has been featured #3 on the Top 15 Names of Girls Who Will Get Engaged In 2015.  Future fiance my ring size is a 5.5 and I prefer princess cut with white gold.
  • Next summer I swear I'm not gonna work.  I need to take some time to myself because I need a break from these kids.
  • Love & Hip Hop
    • What is a "Meeting Of The Mothers?"  Only one person in this group is married to this man and the rest of y'all just laid down with a married man.  They are truly over glorifying themselves.
    • Yung Joc has 8 kids?  Between four different women?  I guess he doesn't believe in wrapping it up.
    • Then this dumb broad has the nerve to risk her own health and possibly get pregnant by him?
    • The heck is a "promisary" ring?  This must be a old playa type of thing.
    • Why is this Mimi sex tape still a big deal?  Y'all knew that mess was planned.  There was nothing spontaneous about that.
    • Joseline just can't stop dressing like a stripper I guess.
    • Why Kalena upset about her music not coming out?  She was never popular in Dirty Money.  #YouWereAlwaysTheOtherGirl
  • Chileeeee I'm getting these braids in July from the lady who braided them before!  You're not gonna be able to tell me anything.
  • Let's take a moment and just appreciate Steph Curry's adorable daughter, Riley.  Made my ovaries tingle for a second...then I came back to my senses.
  • Now that being transracial is such an accepted thing I would like to announce that I will be living my life as a white woman from here on out.  My Mom has always said that she felt I related better to the white race and now I can finally be with my people.  #CreditScoreAboutToGoUp #LoanAboutToGetApproved #BlackMenAboutToFlockAfterMe
  • Diddy has went and jumped on his son's strength and conditioning coach.  Jesus be a grade A lawyer right now.  He let that Harlem, New York come out of him.  #DontLetTheToothpickFoolYou #TakeThatTakeThat
  • How are you gonna lie to me about being a teacher when I can go look up your certificate?  SMH...lying does not impress me.
  • Kids are starting to call me old indirectly.  This is what life has come to.
  • Is Michael Jordan ever gonna get his Oscar for Space Jam?
  • Went to a conference for one of my summer classes and it was the BIGGEST waste of my time.  How do you talk about your life for 45 minutes of the 75 minutes session?  I came to learn about using arrays in my classroom not that I can see your parents' burial site while watching a tv show.    #WantMyTimeBack
  • I hate when I hear people talking to babies in "baby talk."  All I can think about is how it's affecting their speech development.  Is it affect or effect?
  • I think I've clocked out for teaching at this point.  I'm ready for my break.  #July10 #WhereArtThou
  • How am I supposed to get to my new job on time when I refuse to get dressed for my summer job?  I'm about to live at the school like that book from elementary school just so I can be on time.
  • Weaves from the 90's were horrendous.  Thank God they figured out how to use other people's hair
  • I want to make some jollof rice.  I've had it once before and don't even remember how it tasted but everyone always raved about it.  #SummerOfNewFood
  • Is North West ever gonna get to wear colors besides white, black, and beige?  This child is gonna go to school and struggle with learning her colors at this rate.
  • I need to go ahead and send J. Cole a graduation invite since he's always popping up at events for fans.  Think he'll come to the birth of my first child?
  • Speaking of J. Cole, his verse on Jeremiah's Planes always gets me.  I'm always so excited to rap it but afterwards I feel like I need to go to church and ask for forgiveness.

Friday Ramblings

It's Friday, so you know the deal...

  • Out on Christmas Break!!!!!  Words cannot describe my feelings at the current moment.  This has been a very emotional school year for me.  It has been far from easy but I am pushing through it.
  • My Dad said the word "damn" in a sentence directed towards me.  My natural instinct was, "Who you think you cussing at?!"  He later proceeded to put his foot in the chair which resulted in me saying, "Get your foot out of that chair!  No type of home training I tell you!"  #StillInWorkMode
  • The t-shirts for debutantes this year are very popular in my house.  My Dad wants one because he too is a "deb" simply because he's my Cotillion photos.
  • Time to figure out when I'm gonna get The Beast blown out for the new year.
  • That moment when my aunt gave me a little bag of chocolate covered pecans for Christmas...    -___-.  I tried to be appreciative and remember it's the thought that counts but those things looked like she made them and I also know that she had to put her hands on them.  Not cool.
  • Speaking of food...someone made some mac  n cheese in my family that looked straight out of the Kraft box.  I'm not the one to brag but I know for sure I could show that family member how to make REAL macaroni and cheese.  #ProfessionalMacaroniAndCheeseMaker
  • Finally purchased J. Cole's new album.  I have to listen to it in my car to give a true review but it sounds pretty good so far.  Maybe he'll pop up at my house to do a listening party with me.  *Prays J. Cole sees this blog*
  • Since I'm on break I've been watching this Nellyville show and I must question why Nelly is dating this Miss. Jackson lady.  Everything he tells her not to do with his niece she does anyways.  Case in point this twerk class (not sure why you would bring her and expect to sit still) and then getting these booty shorts with tons of holes.  I understand that these "reality" shows are scripted but come on....y'all are not on the same page.
  • 25th birthday coming up!!!!  Maybe I'll do a post called 25 Things I Wish I Had Known Before 25.
  • I need a massage.
  • I'm still tryna recreate this 7/11 video for my birthday.  I need $50 to make it though.  Someone has already volunteered to donate $20.  Who wants to donate the other $30? #SmackItSmackItInTheAir
  • Made my homemade red velvet cake.  Too bad I screwed up the icing.  #LiveAndYouLearn
  • Anyone want to take me to the movies to see Selma and Into The Woods?  That includes buying my ticket and concessions.  Please not all at once!
  • My cousin and his girlfriend have informed that I need to learn how to fry chicken and make stewed chicken.  #TheWayToAMansHeart
  • The weekend is here.  Let me prepare to have two weddings, five engagements, and two pregnancy announcements come across my timeline.

Friday Ramblings: Only Because My Coworkers Asked

It's Friday, so you know the deal...

  • I'm back to the j-o-b.  Nothing has changed.  I'm still waiting for the moment when everybody says this is supposed to get easier.
  • I know I am getting old because:  (1)  My Facebook is filled with engagement/wedding announcements, (2) My Facebook is filled with birth/pregnancy announcements, and (3) I've attended two children birthday parties in about two months.
  • When pay day hits I will be sure to do the Schmoney dance all up and down the hallways.  #GettingPaidOnceAMonth
  • At one point (when the smash cake was presented to the baby or most likely when the gifts were being opened) during my coworker's daughter's 1st birthday party my uterus felt a tingle of, "Brittany, you should have kids."  Then the thought of my school children came back to me.  #MiddleSchoolers #NaturesFreeAndNaturalBirthControl
  • I need to get out of this house but at the same time I'm kind of like, "Screw paying these bills.  I'll just suffer."
  • When a child tells you they get a check every month for ADHD.  -___-   O_O   >_<
  • Still in search of that public speaking class but I am considering some life coaching.
  • Someone asked me if I could imagine being engaged at 24.  That was a quick answer of "yes."  The goal was 25 but I think it's best to cancel that one seeing how my 25th birthday is only four months away. #MaybeNextLifetime
  • Speaking of 25, I need to figure out what I'm going to do for the big day.
  • Well thanks to my Mom for ruining No Good Deed by telling me all about it.  Seriously, my only question was "Did you like the movie?" and she proceeded to tell me everything.
  • I seriously need to decide when I'm getting these braids.
  • *Proceeds to wait on another three to five engagement/wedding/pregnancy announcements this week.*
  • I saw a white girl in Walmart with a hair bonnet on.  Miley Cyrus or whoever is having a negative effect on these girls.  #LookUpToBeyonce
  • RIP to the Schmoney dance also.  This golf team just murdered it with their lack of rhythm and fluid body movement.  I mean, I'm not Josephine Baker but...
  • Out here helping people fulfill their graduate class requirements.  Please cut me my check once you get that pay bump...even if it's $20.
  • My reaction to this Maroon 5 video O_O  Adam Levine is still beautiful...stalker or not.
  • When a kid tells me they're not afraid to walk off of school property....  Ummmm...  Yeah....  I'm hurt....  Please don't do that!
  • Kim & Kanye are doing the most with this baby and her front row Fashion Week adventures.
  • Omarion's mom is the equivalent of Mama Dee almost.
  • No to The Duggers giving their sister a baby mobile for a wedding gift.  I would be so ticked off by that gift.
  • This lady let her bridal party wear white.  No ma'am.
  • Well another person I know has ran off and got married.  Everyone will be having grandchildren next.  #GettingOld #IFeelMyEggsDryingUp #AmIJoanClayton
  • Kim Kardashian claims that she didn't leave her baby in the hotel while she went out to the car.  She said she was checking for the car seat.  Ummm...don't you have people who handle that?
  • Whose donating to the wisdom teeth removal fund?  Not all at once you guys!
  • Well this week of work definitely made me question if I wanted to go back to wearing a hair net at the old J-O-B.  #28MoreWeeks

Friday Ramblings

It's Friday, so you know  the deal...

  • I'm 24 and still feel awkward listening to Marvin Gaye's Sexual Healing in my parents' house.  Like it's just not right.
  • Cooked some chicken breast and it didn't come out right.  I was side eyeing it like, "Why don't you look like last week's chicken?"  I did conclude that it didn't have enough season though.
  • Went to a 3 year old's birthday party.  It was mostly made up for 2-3 year old kids.  I felt so overwhelmed y'all.  Like, I can't have kids right now or in the next two to three years.
  • Speaking of that party, it was the best party I've attended this year so far.  I don't think that's a good sign.  #INeedToGetOutMore
  • I wish I had the recipe for that sweet potato bisque I had in college one year.  Ughhhh I miss the dining hall specials.
  • I encountered Chadwick Boseman at the Get On Up premiere in Augusta.  I told him he was cute.  I'm sure he's still thinking about me.
  • Had to tell a little kid to get up out my face.  I then feared that his parents were around the corner ready to jump me.
  • Blake Griffin why must you be so beautiful?  And yet, why must you have a child?
  • Extreme Couponing is so dramatic.  They always get to that register and they're like, "Oh God, I don't have $567.85 for sure."  Like DUH...that's why you're on Extreme Couponing.
  • I had an Egg White Delight from McDonald's.  All I could think of was, "OMG these probably aren't even real eggs.  I bet they're made of some ingredient found in nail polish remover."  My stomach began cramping immediately after these thoughts.
  • Pet peeve of mine, when you're working in a group and suggest something but a member disagrees.  Then after seeing the project fail they voice the idea that you told in the beginning.  #ThatWasMyIdea30MinutesAgo
  • Spent $70 in Walmart.  I haven't spent that much in that store since my college days.
  • Saw my 8th grade ELA teacher.  My fondest memory of him was when a kid was acting up in class and he calmly said, "Boy I will throw this stapler at you."
  • This BAPs Show hasn't been canceled yet?!
  • I need to take a public speaking class.  #SelfImprovement
  • I can't deal with this Raising Asia show on Lifetime.  They're letting this 8 year old girl act like she's 21.  I seriously thought I was watch Jelena from Hit The Floor at one point. #SpareTheRodSpoilTheChild
  • Ordered two things from Amazon on Saturday.  Still no e-mail about them sending my stuff out.
  • I can't stand these stories of privileged folks coming into urban schools and portraying themselves as saviors of the students but then leaving after like four years to go open their own school.
  • My parents inform me that we're getting our windows done and everything has to be removed from my room pretty much.  Ummm ma'am and sir...I guess I need to find another place to sleep then.  Any takers?
  • Sleep schedule gonna be all screwed up for the school year.  #NotGood
  • Kardashian sisters tryna come for that Cheetah Girl from 3LW.  They know good and well they need to shut up.  Only reason people really care for them is to know who Kim's dating and on occasion Khloe.
  • Kelly Rowland is a cute little pregnant woman.  Almost makes me want kids another 5-10 years.

How To Be A Housewife: Cooking Empanadas

So despite what I say, I do enjoy cooking to some degree.  As I get bored, I become more domesticated and the desire to cook hits.  I decided a few weeks ago that I was going to make empanadas.  I was originally introduced to this dish by my high school Spanish teacher, Senor Vasquez.  Every year that I had him as a teacher we made empanadas and sopapillas as a part of learning about the Latin American culture.

How To Be A Housewife: Lime Chicken

So with school being out and me feeling bored, my domestic side has kicked in.  Therefore after voting today I decided to head to the grocery store and buy some chicken breast to cook something.  I found a recipe and when I arrived home I altered it to my taste.

Ingredients

  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/4 teaspoon parsley
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breast halves
  • 1/4 (2 tablespoons) stick butter
  • 3/4 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1 lime, cut in half
Directions*
*Usually I include pictures for each of my directions but today I was kind hungry of in a rush.

  1. In a small bowl, mix together your salt, black pepper, cayenne pepper, paprika, dried thyme, and parsley.  Sprinkle your, I guess we'll call it dry rub, onto both sides of the chicken breast halves.  When I made mine I rubbed it in with my fingers.
  2. Turn a stove cap onto medium-high heat and place a large skillet onto it.  When the skillet is hot take the 1/4 stick of butter and allow it to melt in by spreading it around the skillet using a wooden spoon.  Next add your 3/4 teaspoon of minced garlic and spread it across the skillet.
  3. Place your chicken breast halves in the skillet.  Take one of the lime halves and squeeze it onto the chicken breasts.  You'll notice something like a sauce developing at the bottom of the skillet.  Try to swirl it around without moving the skillet from the pan.  Cook for 7 minutes and then flip the chicken breast to the other side.  Take the second part of lime half and squeeze it onto the chicken breasts just like you did the first time.  Cook this side for 6 minutes.
When I first started cooking the chicken breast.  Remember to squeeze that lime half on there.  Also, if you notice I only have two chicken breast halves in the pan.  I only used two and used the same amount of seasoning which in turn resulted in my food being a little salty.  This is why I say use four chicken breast halves.

After flipping and reversing the chicken.Remember to squeeze the second lime half on there.
After my food was done I paired my chicken with black beans, my favorite type of bean after baked beans.  I purchased Conchita Black Beans, which were in the "Latin" section of the grocery store.  They were already seasoned and delicious might I add.

Friday Ramblings

It's Friday so you know the deal...

  • I haven't done one of these in forever and a day because of all of these reasons that I'm sure are BS.  Oh well...
  • BET Awards Recap:
    • I like Jhene Aiko's performance with John Legend.  She seemed very free spirited even though she should have wore shoes.
    • Chris Brown has been out of jail for like a week but has somehow managed to be practice for two different BET Award performances.  Also this dude has been doing the same dance moves since he first hit the scene but just adds one or two new moves in, such as The Nae Nae for this year.
    • Why was this 17 year old girl singing Between The Sheets?!
    • Usher's performance was pretty good but I was concerned about whether or not he was about to break his hip.  We know that the man isn't in his 20's anymore.  One too many spins but lead to a disaster.  I do enjoy his song about kissing that really isn't about "kissing."
    • Busta?  What happened man?  Time has not been good to you.
    • I don't care what Pharrell says about a dermatologist being the secret to his ageless appearance.  Dude has sold his soul to Pap Legba and I know it.  20 years from now he's gonna be looking the same way he did tonight.
    • I want my hair like Jennifer Hudson's.  I just need to go buy a weave.
    • Larenz Tate drinking from that fountain of youth too I see.
    • August Alsina minus the hair and teeth, Chris Brown, and Trey Songz in one performance.  Way too much for me to handle.  When are they going on tour?  I'd spend that teaching money too quick.
    • Lionel Richie's performance was really good.
    • Keke Palmer's outfit of choice might have been cute if she were in the new Star Wars playing the love interest C-3PO.
    • Why are there like 20 people on stage for the best group award with Young Money?  Who is the white chick?  Who did she "kiss" that night to get up on stage?
    • TI needs to retire.
    • Yay for the 90's baby making special they did.  I'm sure my parents let me sing one of those songs as a child since I had no clue what any of it meant.
    • Paula Patton needs to hurry up and take Robin Thicke back.  This dude is begging and pleading to get her back.  If she won't take him I'll go mend his broken heart.
    • Nicki threw shade at Iggy I see.
    • Beyonce and Jay-Z are the winners once again by not having to come out and perform live.
  • Please tell me why this man was answering his phone at my friend's graduation.  I was sitting there like, "No, this fool isn't."
  • Woman asked me what type of hair I had.  Luckily I'm a changed woman because the old me would have said, "My hair!" without thinking twice.
  • I think I want to try a flexirod set but the question is will I have the patience to do it.  *Looks at Curlformers that I used once two summers ago and never again*
  • Another good season of Orange Is the New Black.  Everything worked out the right way also.
  • I've been called bougie about 100 times in the last three weeks.  I refuse to believe it's true.
  • Listening to the explicit version of I Luv This.  Oh Lord...this is too much for me.
  • Mom said it looks like I'm gaining weight.  I don't like this.
  • Clear renewable certificate finally came through.  Now I just need to figure out what program I want to do for graduate school. #DrJonesEdD
  • Meeting someone else with natural hair is always an interesting encounter.  "Oh look at that hair!"  "What do you do to it?"
  • I had to help my Mom bag up phone books.  We're not even halfway done.
  • These pictures of Beyonce and Blue Ivy dressed alike and with matching manis/pedis is cute.  Almost makes me want kids...then I remember the kids I work with August through May. #FreeBirthControl
  • I was so disappointed to find out that Demetria Lucas wrote an article talking about Iggy Azalea and how rap needs more Black females.
  • My brother called the house phone and asked where I was at this Thursday.  I repeat, my brother called the HOUSE phone and asked WHERE I was at Thursday.
  • I need to find a summer job in Brooklyn or sometime of internship.  I desperately need to cross off my "Summer In Brooklyn" Bucket List goal.
  • Who wants to take me to the Sundial in Atlanta?  Please not all at one time.
  • Still haven't gone to my baseball game or the beach.  *sigh*
  • I want a video camera to document stuff in my life.  I'm not buying one for $1000 though.
  • The dance routines on Hit The Floor really aren't impressing me this year and it's sad.  They must have fired last years choreographer.

Friday Ramblings

It's Friday, so you know the deal...

  • I am currently on a 90's R&B binge of music.
  • So upset that my program canceled Monday's class and pushed it back to next week.  I'm ready to be DONE with this thing.
  • In other news it's time for me to look into graduate programs.  I've gotta move up in this world.
  • Basketball Wives recap:
    • Ummm why is Jackie comparing this cognac that British is drinking to Lorenzo's watermelon?
    • British looked cute in her all white I must say.  I'm still lost as to why she's wearing this pink bra with her white shirt in these confessionals though.
    • I know Sundy [sic] ain't telling nobody to "humble" themselves in Paris, knowing good and well she can't afford to go there without the helps of Basketball Wives.
    • So now we make jokes about people's cancer preventing them from having kids?  #WhereTheyDoThatAt
  • Is it May 23rd yet?
  • Kenya talking about she could have laid Porscha out in three moves because she's learned the same self-defense tactics as the Israeli military.  Girl go on somewhere with that!  Your butt got laid out by the person you least expected it from.  Plus all this crap about having to worry about being a role model to young girls.  She doesn't worry about that any other time.
  • Why does Nikko from Love & Hip Hop:  Atlanta look like the sloth from Ice Age?!
  • The new Hit The Floor trailer is telling me that I need to hit some flexibility classes.
  • I made goodie bags for my 8th grade math students.  As soon as I tied the first bag I was overcome with fatigue and regret...even though it was only 20 bags. #DontJudgeMe
  • I'm having one of those moments were I feel like my life is not on course but I'm gonna fight the feeling off before it takes over.
  • Watching The Little Couple makes me want an Indian baby.  This little girl is just too adorable with her bowl haircut.
  • Why must graduate school cost so much?!
  • This Waffle House breakfast was amazing this week.  #CollegeGotMeAddicted
  • I hate packing but being able to see my boo Andre 3000 will make it worth it.
  • Wife Swap is always such an interesting show.  I always enjoy seeing the super strict mom and the I-Let-My-Kids-Do-What-They-Want mom switch houses.  It's pure comedy.
